Role Overview
As a Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer, you will design, deploy, and maintain the core infrastructure that powers our organization. You will own physical servers, VMware virtualization, high-end storage arrays, SAN fabrics, cloud services, datacenter operations, and Linux environments. Your deep troubleshooting expertise and over 10 years of hands-on experience will ensure optimal performance, availability, and scalability of our mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle of physical server hardware (rack, stack, configure, firmware upgrades, decommission)
- Design, implement, and administer VMware vSphere environments (ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, clusters, DRS, HA, vMotion)
- Provision and optimize high-end storage arrays and SAN infrastructure (NetApp, HPE 3PAR), including LUN management, multipathing, and performance tuning
- Architect and support cloud infrastructure services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud or private cloud), including networking, security, and cost optimization
- Oversee datacenter operations: power/cooling monitoring, capacity planning, rack space allocation, and cabling standards
- Administer and harden Linux servers (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu), covering patch management, security baselining, and kernel tuning
- Troubleshoot complex issues across hardware, virtualization, storage, networking, and operating systems under pressure
- Develop and maintain automation and orchestration scripts (Bash, Python, PowerCLI, Ansible) to streamline repetitive tasks
- Collaborate with network, security, and application teams to deliver end-to-end infrastructure solutions
- Produce and update detailed documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures
- Mentor and guide junior engineers; conduct knowledge-sharing sessions and foster best practices
- Enforce compliance with security policies, backup strategies, and disaster recovery plans
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in IT infrastructure and datacenter environments
- At least 8 years of VMware expertise, including design and administration of vSphere, vCenter, DRS, HA, and vMotion
- At least 7 years of experience with SAN and enterprise storage arrays (NetApp, HPE 3PAR)
- Proven track record managing physical servers from leading vendors (Dell, HPE, Cisco UCS)
- Demonstrable skills in cloud infrastructure design and operations (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
- Expert-level Linux administration skills across multiple distributions
- In-depth understanding of datacenter power/cooling, capacity planning, and physical security
- Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities across multiple technology domains
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Bash, Python, PowerCLI, Ansible)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Certifications
- VMware Certified Professional – Datacenter Virtualization (VCP-DCV)
- AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or CompTIA Linux+
- NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA)
Desired Skills
- Familiarity with container orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Knowledge of network storage protocols (iSCSI, Fiber Channel, FCoE)
- Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions (Veeam, Veritas NetBackup)
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Hands-on experience with monitoring and logging frameworks (Nagios, Prometheus, ELK Stack)
Additional Information
This role is based in our primary datacenter facility, with occasional travel to satellite sites. You will participate in a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24/7 availability.
